To understand how search engine optimization impacts your online business, there are a few key concepts you need to be aware of:
Page Optimization Cost —
The cost of having a single page of your web site optimized to improve search engine rankings for certain keywords or phrases.
Average cost is approximately $300 - $500. This optimized page, or 'landing page' is where your visitors enter your site.
Number of Web Visitors —
The number of visitors who come to your site over a specific period of time.
Number of Web Orders —
The number of online orders or requests for your products and services over a specific period of time.
Avg. Sales Per Order —
The average amount of revenue you generate from a web order.
For example, you have three web orders, one at $100 and two at $250. The average sales per order is $200 ($600 total revenue / 3 orders).
Qualified Web Visitor —
Visitors who enter your site via the landing page. These visitors are coming for a specific purpose and have a much better chance of being 'converted'.
Traffic to your landing page is determined by how high the landing page appears in the major search engine rankings when
specific keywords or phases are searched on.
Conversion Rate —
The number of visitors who come to your site and convert into customers, usually expressed as a percent of overall visitors. Converting visitors depends on
how well you guide them from your landing page, through your web site in an effort to 'convert' them to a customer. Conversion rates vary, with the average
rate being 2-3%. For example, if you have 10,000 visitors and 200 place orders, the conversion rate is 2% (100 orders / 10,000 visitors).
By increasing qualified web traffic, you will increase the number of visitors you convert. |
